The assessment of sustainability of alternative nuclear energy systems encompasses a wide range of aspects. INPRO has classified seven main areas for assessment of a Nuclear Energy System (NES) among which economics is a critical area for evaluation of nuclear power reactors and their associated fuel cycle technologies. The INPRO basic principle established for this area is: “energy and related products and services from an NES shall be affordable and available”.
