The Office for Nuclear Regulation is the United Kingdom’s (UK) independent nuclear regulator for safety, security and safeguards. 1 It was established in 2014 under The Energy Act 2013 (TEA13) 2 , with the mission of protecting society by securing safe nuclear operations across the UK. This includes the regulation of operational reactors, fuel cycle facilities, waste management and decommissioning sites, and authorised defence sites. 3 ONR also regulates the design and construction of new nuclear facilities, including the supply chain and the transport of nuclear and radioactive materials by road, rail, and inland waterways.
